Gour Hari Dastaan, directed by Ananth Narayan Mahadevan, opens with an Andre Gide quote: ?To know how to free oneself is nothing; the arduous thing is to know what to do with one?s freedom.? What a superb acting by Vinay Pathak.Loved the movie Here is a film that silently pulls you into a relationship of engagement, rather than by being loud and calling attention to itself. That he did indeed take part in the Free India movement as a teenager in Orissa, in the mid 40s.

A slow movie in its pace. Gour Hari Dastan is a biographical film which showcases the struggle of Indians, they face in daily life against the government, whether it is regarding any pension/freedom fighter paper, it shows the struggle of how government is in INdia, How the working class people in India are, not caring about work, just waiting for bribery, to get the work done. At the age of 84, the much sought-after certificate, when it was ultimately awarded, was a bittersweet victory.

Gour Hari Das, an unsung hero of our freedom struggle, who first fought for the country, but later on had to fight against the country. It was only when the movie ended I realised its based on a true story and is actually a biography. Storyline Gour Hari Das, a freedom fighter who works in Khadi Kraft and lives along with his wife & son, lives a content life in his neighborhood. Uplifting even, if it is connected with a country’s freedom struggle. But those thoughts are raised in the most banal way.Despite the news coverage, Gour Hari’s struggle continues. The movie works in every aspect, and by far one of the few complete movies.

However, one day when his son is unable to secure college admission for lack of a Freedom Fighter's Certificate, he feels the need to establish his identity. What a mindblowing movie. Because if I start commenting on anything about this film on a technical aspect , it will be an insult .This is a very important film, movies like these should be promoted by every individual who watches it. Gour Hari’s ‘dastaan’, based on the quest of a real-life character, has all the elements that could have made it all this and more, but it comes off flat and dull.Gour Hari Das ( Pathak) needs to convince his son that he was, indeed, a freedom fighter. Gour Hari Dastaan is a story of an Odisha freedom fighter, Gour Hari Das who made his way through a long battle of silent war that lasted for 32 years, against his own government to prove his patriotic association towards the nation.

He begins doing the rounds of callous `sarkaari’ offices, and by the end of his endless grind, facing in equal measure disinterest and disbelief, he is in need of that conviction himself.
