You do miss certain aspects if you are not a Spanish speaker, but it shows that this great animated Latin microcosm has something special prepared for audiences worldwide, with a spectacular soundtrack, an amazing original dubbing work, a very realistic attention to audiovisual detail, romance, craziness, all of this briefly contrasted with the contemporary, post-revolutionary society of Cuba and its effect on music trends.

Everything We Know About Chico is a young piano player with big dreams. Despite being largely at odds with itself, when set against recent animation trends that typically centre around celebrity voice acting and cute animals, Chico and Rita is a breath of fresh air striving for originality. Overall, I enjoyed this film even if I didn't think it had anything new to offer. It's refreshing to see an animated film that isn't striving to appease only children or for a merchandising deal.

From Havana to New York, Paris, Hollywood and Las Vegas, two passionate individuals battle impossible odds to unite in music and love. When a soundtrack this fluidly elegant is married to trite dialogue, thin characterizations, and chockablock animation, it has to go down as a missed opportunity. | Rating: 4/5
