The Blue Nile, a major tributary to the world's largest river, the great Nile, starts its journey from Lake Tana. Lake Abaya is famous amongst birdwatchers. The lake was DRY on 12 January 2018, but our group & children had great fun hiking & picnicking in the dry lake bed. The primary source of inflow to Lake Abaya is the Bilate River through the northern shore.
